Everyone's a Winner Autumn Challenge CXXVIIII
« on: September 29, 2009, 11:00:07 pm »

The Autumn Challenge

Yes, Autumn has arrived. Time to pack up your Bikinis and Sunscreen until next summer.
Fall officially arrived here in the States last Tuesday, September 22nd. As we all know with the arrival of Autumn comes many things.
We're going to ask you to choose a song that has something in the Title or Lyrics that has to do with the season. Some Examples: Songs with the words: Fall, Autumn, Harvest, Reap, Cool (as in cooler weather) Cold, Rain, Leaves (as in fallen leaves) How about raking?...or maybe some Fall colors like Gold or Red that the leaves turn in Fall...We have shorter days (short, shorter) or longer nights (long, longer). Football season has arrived with all the lingo associated with that...
You could even post a song that has a Fall time memory attached to it for you....As you can see the sky is the limit. Just post a song and tell us how you're associating it with the theme and run with it.... I am known in certain circles as the 'King of the Challenge Theme Stretch' so basically anything you want to share on the thread this week is okay with Easy-going Phil Baby....
Oh, one more thing: I'd like to give a shout-out to Rhonda who came up with this great idea for the theme this week. She's buried up to her eyes in homework and tests so we may or may not see her this week. But we can all give her a big thank you for helping me come up with this great idea.....so, without any further ado....Let's get this theme rolling....above all, let's have some fun this week!)

Well, I don't think it specifically mentions Autumn, but hearing the words "colors of the wind" make me think of fall leaves blowing in the breeze.  Maybe it's a stretch, maybe not?   ;D

Oh, and btw, here in Florida we haven't put away our bikinis or sunscreen just yet.   :P

Hello Phil,
Lovely theme idea.  Fall and summer are my seasons.  Going to put on my leaf-colored thinking cap for this one.

Off to England on Thursday for a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to participate much, however I thought I could put in a song or two, and have some listens before I go. Sound a great challenge Phil.

Just recorded one by Eva Cassidy, which is a standard ( I have a Frank Sinatra version)

I'm sure I won't be the only one with this.

I'm so glad that Phil the "Stretch King" is hosting this one.  Since 4shared seems to have been hacked again, I can't get into my large library.  This might be the only song I have to fit this week's challenge and I had to stretch to make this one fit.

From the 1936 movie of the same name that was released in the Fall of that year on November 25th.

Roberta - love the pun! ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Phil, in some circles, I'm known as the "Queen of Stretching Themes So My Song Will Fit the Challenge".  So good thing you're not too rigid about that sort of thing.

My entry is:  Ain't No Sunshine

The second line is "It's not warm..."

And geez Louise, I've just turned on the heat!

Good challenge theme!  When I think of the fall, I think of all the ripening fields (cornfields here in the Midwest, especially).  So, here is one of my favorite songs by Sting.

Hi gang.

Lovely challenge theme, Phil.

Great to see some familiar faces around here.

I have tried to partake in the challenge the past few weeks but, although I got a good bit of listening in last week, it has been hard to stay on top of everything. As you can see, Janet and I have been implementing some new features so you folks can have a truly interactive experience here. It takes a little doing, and is in no small part thanks to Janet trouble shooting these apps. But it also requires some time on my behalf. So, if I am not here all the time, please forgive me.

It is my hope that this challenge will go on forever. It is my hope that it will continue to grow and that our old friends will return as often as possible while new friends continue to join us. It is also my hope that it can continue to run flawlessly no matter the level of involvement from Janet or I. That's not because we don't want to take part. It's because we want to be able to keep creating a great site for you AND to have the challenge keep growing.

So, thanks to all those who play such a big part in keeping the challenge thriving. And thanks for understanding if I am not always here that it is not because I have less interest but, rather, because I have more in keeping sing-share growing into a quality home for us.

The new profile page means you can create a profile that is a statement about who you are and what music or art or video or other creations you make. Just as you may have done in the past on Singsnap or elsewhere, you can customize your profile. And here you can actually get comments posted on your profile. Also, unlike most of those other sites, you can stay in touch with each other through our Instant Messenger. And, you can kill a few hours playing our games and quizzes.

Lastly, I just want to point out that we are a club and all of you play a vital role in building this club into what it is and whatever it will become. This is not some massive commercial site looking for profits wherever we can find them. We are not part of some faceless corporation. We are a group of people that came here because we enjoy spending time together, have similar interests and wanted a place where we could share in safety, without someone looking over our shoulders or censoring what we have to say. Janet and I never dreamed of all the possibilities we are now discovering. We have built a site that far exceeds what we thought it would be when we first came here, not to be more "professional" but, simply, to build a home for our club that is the very best clubhouse anyone could want.

I hope you will all continue to help make it what it can be. Thanks.

Ok "Easy-going Philbaby".. Mr. king of the theme stretch.......

I had several great ideas for songs, only to discover that other people had beaten me to the punch...   (By the way Mike,  that duet with Kia is one of the most hauntingly gorgeous things I've heard!)

Anyway...  The best I could come up with is  a little bit of Blue October...

I'm looking at the titles of these songs and lol

I'm glad everyone is "stretching" their vocal chords because I'm going to have to do some gymnastics too I think if I'm to find a song.

I hope I can get some listens in tomorrow.

With all the "stretching" going on, this one feels like a breeze, 'cause the first four letters are F-A-L-L!  The autumnal connection kinda breaks down after that promising start, but it's a kickin' song with almost no comments, and I would hazard a bet that most people haven't heard it!

Nice cosy theme Phil ...it's spring for me but never mind ...I'm rather fond of autumn/fall.

I'm about to fall over at the moment ...or my brain is ...it's full of paperwork. Rustle rustle rustle ...rrrrriiiiip! EEek what happened to the good old fashioned days when nurses were nurses! But the people I work with are nice & friendly so I hope I don't go crazy ...ticking little boxes ...scoring every bodily function ...mutter mutter

anyway I might not sing until Saturday the rate I'm going!!
