This challenge is open to all. It runs from Tuesday August 4 until August 11, 2009 at 6PM EDT.

PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES AND THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING.

PURPOSE - The purpose of the EAW Music Challenge is to encourage people to create and/or promote new music each week and to give them a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved.

HOW IT WORKS - Every Tuesday at 6PM a topic featuring a new theme will be posted on this board. Those wishing to participate are invited to post links to their songs that match the theme. You may post a song with a link from any online music/singing site you belong to. Over the years a nice little community has sprung up around these challenges. We invite you to participate but be aware that here everyone is very supportive of each other. Amateurs and professionals are both welcome. You do not have to be a great singer to participate. No flaming is allowed on this board. This is not a contest. There is no judging. It is merely an opportunity to hear and be heard by others. You can post or merely listen and interact with the others who post here. Please follow the detailed guidelines which are posted below and at the top of each new challenge thread. Have fun!

CHALLENGE GUIDELINES -

1. Post links to ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme. You may post a THIRD one on or after Thursday.  You may post a FOURTH song link on or after Saturday.  Your song can be a new song or one that was previously recorded.

2. . That means, if you post 2 song links you should listen to 12 others over the course of the 7 days of the challenge, a little less than 2 a day. If you post 3 song links, listen to 18 others and so on. You may, of course, listen to more if you choose. Listening is the most important part of this challengename of your song. For easy instructions on how to HOT LINK and post your song title, click EAW FAQ.

7. Please do not post glitter or large graphics as feedback or in the thread. Please keep to the standard font, size and color that is already provided - this helps prevent your songs and comments from getting lost in a sea of shifting fonts and colors. For your song title only, use 14pt font size and bold. This will help your song stand out. For more information on how to do this, check the EAW FAQ.

The theme for this challenge is 105 years of Movies - 400 songs!

Apparently, 22nd June 2004 celebrated 100 years of movies and 100 songs:

AFI 100 years and 100 songs - voted for....

But also on the website they provide an adobe pdf file giving 400 songs to chose from... I really love this list, and since we are in the holidays to make it really easy for you, I thought it would be nice to use this, and celebrate 105 years of movies and songs ... lazy aren't I?  :P

So, post a song from the following list:  Link to Adobe pdf file containing 400 songs from movies  This file has been downloaded from AFI and uploaded to Sing-share.

Hopefully you can all open an adobe.pdf file... if not you can get the free reader from here:
Click the button on the website which says Adobe Reader

Have fun!  I'm waiting for ya!

EDIT!  Don't forget to say which movie the song is from that you post!  I forgot that bit!

Ello Everyone!  First off Thank you to Bruce for the last 3 decades.

And I'm sorry I wasn't around the last couple days.  I've actually been
applying myself to my job and did so all the way until midnight last night.

We're promised rain so I thought I'd try to get a little done outside this
afternoon when SUDDENLY as I was surveying the weeds, I thought CHALLENGE!
Thank God!  I ran in here as quick as I could lol. ::)

I haven't looked at the list, but this seems like a lovely idea.
Also my new mixer arrived today, so  I may be spending some time
hitching it up.
We are stardust.

Okay...you guys know that movies/show tunes is my favorite theme of themes.  I will probably "hog the stage" to make up for my lack of participation the last few weeks...just kidding...

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  I spent the whole afternoon singing! It was a blast... Now it's time to listen!   Then it's off to dinner with Bryan!

Here are two Irene Cara songs from me, the first one freshly recorded: FAME
One from last month:

Whoooo-hoo my ears are sizzling.  Janet is now taking a brief coffee break... I will still be hanging here but about to have my first coffee since about 8am this morning - I need it!

Loved everything so far :D

EDIT:  Okay... me sleepy!  I can hardly keep my eyes open as was very late to bed night before, then up before 7am this morning... need rest!

Playlist is up to date, looking forward to listening again in the morning.  Take care everyone and more songs please?  :D

I've got one in mind from a movie that has songs on the list, but surprisingly, not the one I'm interested in. Anyway, I've cleared it with Janet and will try to record it this week. Not my usual type of song, this one, but I want to try something different and vocally challenging.

Great theme, Jay! How nice of you to provide that splendid list to pick from! I sighed at first thinking that it would all be songs from musicals, etc but that list has a lot of great tunes on it. I'm heading to San Antonio to see a beautiful lady on Friday-it's been a month and I'm about to go mad!.... but I shall be back with a song sometime soon!

Hi everyone!!!

Mrs. woof and I just got home from seeing a brilliant young blues guitarist/singer...
His name is Mike Tozier
Check him out....

This looks to be a great challenge, but I'll have to come back tomorrow when I'm a bit less distracted.

Good morning all, lovely to see more songs added.  I'll update the list in a moment.

I've an eye check-up at 11.45am so I'm in for a little while, then gotta get ready.  Another very beautiful day out with a slight breeze.

I was woken up by a Dalek this morning!  :(  He kept telling me he was going to exterminate me, and then he suddenly said, "you would make a good Dalek?"    ::)

They're so fickle... must be hormones... I dunno!

Grabbing breakfast... heh, I bought some nice fresh pineapple yesterday, with greek yoghurt and special Muesli ... Mmmm.   Anyone want to join me?   ;D

Phil!   ;D  You know, 2 years ago that would have been me, for I didn't know any musicals or many standards... we have a great friend on here, Mr Bronx, who changed all that, and I have been edumacated!  And love hearing and singing songs from them, and hearing others too.   Hopefully soon I'll get to see one, heh.  They are featuring Company at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival next week, and I'm hoping to get a ticket!

I'm also hoping to snuggle into my couch and watch South Pacific, West Side Story and The Sound of Music, which I got as a box set for Christmas and nobody wanted to watch!  Even though they bought it for me! :(  But my family have gone away for a week leaving me with nothing to do but get up to mischief  ;D  I mean Waaaaah!

Gotta run now... be back later to catch up!  And thank you everybody.  ;)

The AFI list shows this song as being from the 1976 movie "Smile".  I never saw that movie so I don't know if this is actually the song intended.  But, THIS is the song I know and it is also from a movie.

It was written by Charlie Chaplin in 1936 for his last silent film "Modern Times".  Of course, since it was for a silent film, it originally had no lyrics.  They were added in 1954 by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.
