So many thoughts are occupying my mind of lately.  So many changes are in the air.  So much I just can't even understand myself.  So very much and so little time.  I know, I am not making any sense, lol.

Nice one Dani & Ally!!
Well I'm in grateful mood for the night time here in the completely winterless city of Darwin ...the air cools down, the noise of the outside world fades away & all is tranquil in our caravan park ...unless the nearby air-force jets go on night exercises ...grrr ...but generally ...it's cool!!

Good morning, looks a great challenge ladies. This is a song that I really enjoyed singing, and put me in a great mood.

The song is from Les Miserables  On My Own

In fact you could say I was in the pink when I sang it.  I have been banking a few songs, so now for some lunch and listens.  Bye.

Well, the sun came up and I woke up this morning, so I see no reason to be anything other than thankful and cheerful.  So, here's another cheery song.

This is by one of the best composers of African descent in the early 20th century, Shelton Brooks.  He took the syncopation of Ragtime and turned it into popular music.  In it's day, 1898-1910 (approx.), Ragtime was not a popular music style.  Most rags had no lyrics, so you couldn't sing them.  You couldn't dance to them.  And, they were simply too hard for Mom or Grandma to play on the parlor piano on a Sunday afternoon.

Brooks took the music of such composers as Scot Joplin and made it enjoyable.  For those interested, here's a neat video of Brooks performing:

This song also has an interesting back story.  There really was a Darktown Ball, in Chicago from around 1900 to at least 1917.  It was begun by the "ladies of the evening" who decided they wanted to be ladies, at least for one night.

It was a very formal affair and by invitation only.  Those invitations were the most sought after prizes in Chicago and even the mayor would pull strings to be invited.  Hence, the importance of the first line of the song, "I've got some good news, honey, an invitation to the Darktown Ball".

Darktown Strutters Ball - Ally, I tested this one.  I got it right.

Hi all! Dani and Ally, great challenge here. It has been awhile since I posted. I thought I was going to settle in Phx...moved there May 16, only to find myself moving back to Tx a week later to go ahead and begin the RN program June 1. I had planned to continue in Phx but found out it would take 2 -3 years just to get into a program. This one I was already accepted into and would be an RN in a year, soooooo...well it was a no brainer but a difficult choice none the less. I miss my family. I am missing my Philbaby...and life has been crazy since starting the program. Long days...a lot of studying, and well, I'll stop whining now. I need to find something for this challenge. My moods are so varied though. I will try to pop in as I can! Miss listening to everybody!  ;D

Isn's Midnight At The Oasis the one where she takes her Camel to bed?  Kinky!!!

I think it might have been "size" over matter... :O

I'm gonna pull it for now and hope to re-record it tomorrow or asap.  You know I've been staying with my father for about six weeks while my sister's in England; he's been so sick!Taking my dad to  three doctor appts scheduled for tomorrow, so I hope I can get it done....right this time !   ::)

Be back soon, my fave peeps!

Sorry to hear that gives you a big hug! xo

We understand Jubi..going through a few myself. Hugs xo

Howdy.

I'm in the mood for sleeping and resting
(so what else is new?)
My body is hurting from two days of hiking
and one day of lifting canoes and paddling
and my legs hurt, my back hurts
my wrists hurt, my head hurts......

Normally that would mean I could sing a song about hurting
but in this case the song may turn out to be no song at all
as I am toast right now.

Things may change as the challenge moves along
but for this evening
I'm in the mood for recovering and not singing.

Have fun all
and I may or may not be back.

Off to get that heating pad now.
:-*

Get rest Deb! Hugs you xo

I don't feel like sharing why, tho it has nothing to do with anyone on here, but my mood is
fairly dark this week, but improving slowly. Feeling some distrust and isolation, so here's a song our host Daniela should like from her icon John Lennon, a fav of mine too:

What an interesting contrast in music I just came across. Adam's anger mangagement followed by Frank's Fly Me to the Moon. That's definitely going from one extreme to the other

You all are sounding Marvelous! Great start to this challenge...and Thanks again to Ally for coming up with such a super theme. :) xo
