EAW Sock Hop Challenge/Showcase Thingy CXIII
« on: June 09, 2009, 10:47:05 pm »

My wonderful co-host is:  Bella! ;D

This challenge is open to all. It runs from Tuesday June 9th until June 16th 2009 at 6PM EDT.

PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES AND THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING.

PURPOSE - The purpose of the EAW Music Challenge is to encourage people to create and/or promote new music each week and to give them a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved.

HOW IT WORKS - Every Tuesday at 6PM a topic featuring a new theme will be posted on this board. Those wishing to participate are invited to post links to their songs that match the theme. You may post a song with a link from any online music/singing site you belong to. Over the years a nice little community has sprung up around these challenges. We invite you to participate but be aware that here everyone is very supportive of each other. Amateurs and professionals are both welcome. You do not have to be a great singer to participate. No flaming is allowed on this board. This is not a contest. There is no judging. It is merely an opportunity to hear and be heard by others. You can post or merely listen and interact with the others who post here. Please follow the detailed guidelines which are posted below and at the top of each new challenge thread. Have fun!

CHALLENGE GUIDELINES -

1. Post links to ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme. You may post a THIRD one on or after Thursday.  You may post a FOURTH song link on or after Saturday.  Your song can be a new song or one that was previously recorded.

2. . That means, if you post 2 song links you should listen to 12 others over the course of the 7 days of the challenge, a little less than 2 a day. If you post 3 song links, listen to 18 others and so on. You may, of course, listen to more if you choose. Listening is the most important part of this challengename of your song. For easy instructions on how to HOT LINK and post your song title, click EAW FAQ.

7. Please do not post glitter or large graphics as feedback or in the thread. Please keep to the standard font, size and color that is already provided - this helps prevent your songs and comments from getting lost in a sea of shifting fonts and colors. For your song title only, use 14pt font size and bold. This will help your song stand out. For more information on how to do this, check the EAW FAQ.

The theme for this challenge is The Thyme for this challenge is Sock Hop sing any song from 1955-1965 , I've chosen this time period because of all music styles that are contained within it.  Bella provided me with a link to music from any of those years and it also contains Albums that came out in those years you can sing any song contained on one of those albums just let us know the year and the Album and Artist , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1955_in_music , I also would like to keep up the new tradition of inviting a friend and I would love to hear duets so go find a song and lets have some fun

Hi Walt and Bella!!!  Welcome to your first hosting gig.   :)

So the only song I could find in my archives is "Love is Strange" and not only have you already sung it, I've used it in a previous challenge.  I'm really hoping you will let this one slide as it's just a few months older than your 1965 cutoff:

You Can't Hurry Love which was released in 1966 by The Supremes.  Perhaps it was written in 1965?  :)

Hey, Walt and Bella-  Some new blood among our hosts!  Happy to see you!

What a coincidence - I just happened to sing this song from 1965 yesterday -

Ooh Baby Baby

About this song: "Ooh Baby Baby" is a 1965 hit single by The Miracles for the Tamla (Motown) label, today considered the group's signature song. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the song #262 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Also, I have a question for anyone who knows about karaoke production.  My husband told me that David Sanborn, sax player extraordinaire, played the sax on Linda Ronstadt's cover of "Ooh Baby", which is the version on Snap that I'm using for backing.  Whoever is playing the sax on this version is a very good replica of Sanborn.  Is it possible that it is David Sanborn?  I always thought that karaoke wasn't the original artist's work, but someone who covered them.  Or do they just remove the vocals from a song?  In which case it could be Sanborn.  Does anyone know?  Bruce, are you out there?

(Thanks Barraba, for the inspiration!)

It's Back to the Future time.

My grand kids LOVE this.  They danced the whole time I was recording it.

This song is one a few on EAW may have already heard from me, but I'm glad to try to get it some more exposure with this challenge (plus it's so far before my time I may have trouble finding a new one to record any for this challenge). You will have to move to my second page of songs to find it:

http://www.yoosing.com/index.php?task=memberProfile&ref=4985

A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke (1964)

I'll try to come up with another later by recording something new, but not promising anything since the years are so far back.
